Africa’s premier décor, design and lifestyle exhibition portfolio

Decorex SA wraps up a record-breaking year

With a whole new look, as well as the addition of a global design exhibition, Decorex Joburg brought to an end an unforgettable year for Decorex South Africa.

With three successful shows behind us, it is time to look back at some the highlights that each of our national visitors enjoyed.

One of the highlights was undoubtedly the arrival on our shores of 100% Design South Africa, which took place alongside Decorex Joburg. The exhibition attracted some of South Africa’s leading designers as well as distributors of some of the world’s top designer brands.

Another highlight at this year’s series of Decorex exhibitions was the launch of the Design and Trend Forecast, brought to you by Caesarstone. The mini-conferences took place at Durban, Cape Town and Joburg and all featured a trend update from Dion Chang of Flux Trends, a look at the latest décor trends from FranklinTill Design Studio plus a report back from the world’s biggest kitchen show, EuroCucina.

Thanks to the vision of Caesarstone’s Trevor King and his team, Decorex Cape Town also saw the first flashmob ever to take place at one of our exhibitions. Who will forget the mermaid and members of the Cape Town Opera performing in the aisles! View the video >

Decorex would not be complete without the contribution of Plascon – our loyal sponsors since Decorex SA’s inception 21 years ago. After showcasing the 2014 Plascon Colour Forecast at Decorex Durban and Cape Town in March and April respectively, they launched the 2015 Colour Forecast at Decorex Joburg. The elegant Plascon house was resplendent in four different themes and visitors were particularly enchanted by the man cave in shades of gleaming copper and black!

As always, the Decorex SA team put their heads together to bring visitors a couple of innovative features to add to the Decorex experience. In Durban and Cape Town, the Manscapes showcased the outdoor talents of some of the country’s top landscape gardeners as they teamed up with local celebs to create their dream space. Hats off to Durban cricketer Russell Symcox who raised the most money for charity on his Manscape at Decorex Durban.

At both Decorex Cape Town and Joburg, the Belgotex Trend House was an inspired idea for showcasing one brand’s varied product offering. By asking leading designers in each city to take care of a room in their “house”, Belgotex ensured that each of their products were shown off in context. And of course the whole exercise provided endless inspiration for our visitors.

Craft Collective continues to grow as an important showcase of the upcoming crafters around the country. As handmade goods become increasingly sought after, we are grateful to the development bodies such as SEDA and the provincial structures for continuing to support our Craft efforts.

And finally to all our exhibitors and visitors: Thank you for contributing to the immense success that was Decorex SA 2014. We look forward to another year of inspiring ideas and jaw-dropping exhibitions in 2015!
